A Piston Ring is a metallic split ring that is attached to the outer diameter of a piston in an internal combustion engine or steam engine.

The main functions of piston rings in engines are:

Proper way to install piston ring

1:First of all, prepare the special installation of piston ring tools, such as calipers, expanders, etc. Check that the piston ring and ring groove are clean, and keep them clean at all times during installation.

2:Then use the tool to install the piston ring on the piston ring slot, but pay attention to the sequence in the installation process. Most engines use three piston rings, with two gas rings and one oil ring, and some engines use four piston rings, with three gas rings and one oil ring. The installation sequence starts from the bottom oil ring, and then is installed in accordance with the order of the third gas ring - the second gas ring - the first gas ring.

3:In the installation also need to pay attention to the direction of the piston ring and the opening position, the gas ring to let the side marked with letters and numbers face up, if there is no relevant identification that there is no direction requirements. There is no front and back regulation when the oil ring is installed, and each piston ring should be staggered 120° when it is installed. In addition, the piston ring will be thermal expansion when the engine is running at high speed, and radial deformation will occur during the working process, so in order to ensure the normal operation of the engine, the piston ring needs to have a gap.
