The role of the ignition coil and what will happen

2022/12/13

The ignition coil, as the name suggests, is a device that provides ignition energy. We know that if the car wants to go away, the engine will work. The power of the engine comes from the combustion of the mixture in the cylinder. The energy to ignite the mixture is transmitted by the ignition coil, but the spark plug is the real thing. Generally speaking, the service life of the ignition coil is more than 100,000 kilometers.

About the replacement cycle of the ignition coil

Ignition coils are generally replaced every 100,000 kilometers. When the engine is running, there is often tens of thousands of volts of high-voltage pulse current on the ignition coil. Since it works in a high-temperature, dusty, and vibrating environment for a long time, it will inevitably age or even be damaged. If it is not replaced in time, it will affect the working performance of the engine. However, the 100,000 kilometers we are talking about is not a fixed replacement cycle. Usually as long as the ignition coil is functioning properly and the surface is not visibly degraded, it does not need to be replaced.

Ignition coil malfunction

1. When idling, the body shakes obviously. Observing the exhaust pipe opening, the exhaust gas flowing out of the car is obviously intermittent, the exhaust pipe shakes violently, and the sound of "ldquoTu" can be heard clearly;

2. During driving, when the speed is lower than 2500 rpm, the body shakes obviously and the acceleration is weak; when the speed exceeds 2500 rpm, the shaking feeling disappears.

3. Open the engine cover, observe the running engine, and find that the engine vibrates obviously. This kind of jitter obviously does not belong to the jitter under normal engine operating conditions, and the jitter amplitude is very large.

Regarding whether the ignition coil should be replaced together.

If the ignition coils on your vehicle need to be replaced due to age, even if only one fails, it's best to replace them all at once, since everything else is pretty much the same. If only one or two ignition coils fail, but the others are not affected, and the conditions of use are good (the service life is generally more than 100,000 kilometers), then the broken ignition coil can be replaced directly without involving other small partners. Takes the strain off your wallet.
